Msinga Mission is an exciting, holistic witnessing ministry from and to the people of uMsinga. The local Zulu community themselves, through the congregation of the Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa (URCSA) is very involved in this ministry, supported by various partners from outside. The local congregation plays a leading role in determining and implementing the ministry program. Priority is now given to leadership and ministry development, rather than just once off happenings.
Partners, mainly from the Dutch Reformed Church (DRC) and URCSA from the Western Cape Witness Committee, are supporting the local congregation in witnessing to their own community through deeds and words. Other partners are also welcome to participate.
Msinga is a very unique community. Many crucial challenges await any Christian partner who is considering involvement in the ministry in this area. Firstly involvement will expose the partner to a very rural, tribal, traditional African way of living. Here, in Msinga, pastoral Zulu life still continues on the old pathways of many centuries ago. Brutal tribal fighting is still a very real way of living in this community. The partner will meet the rural African church, with it’s very unique liturgies and songs, vibrant in a very unique way! The realities of HIV and Aids, extreme poverty, unemployment and the devastating effects of migrant labour will be experienced and dealt with. The conflict between African traditions and the Christian way of living will be noted, especially in conversations with the men, of whom less than 1% are confessed Christians.
Partners are requested to support the ministry through prayer, short term outreaches and the sharing of human and financial resources.
